Re: Applying wood pieces to canvas

In article <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>,
[EMAIL PROTECTED] says...

That would depend on what you use to prime the
canvas with. Hide glue would be the choice if
you are priming with traditional glue and gesso,
and acrylic medium the choice if you're priming with acrylic
gesso. My choice would be to use acrylic gesso and
glue the pieces to the gesso with acrylic medium.

>Second, would you apply gesso to the wood before adding the oils?

Depends on what it is you're hoping to achieve.
Once again, if you're using traditinal hide glue,
then size the wood with the glue. If you're using
acrylic gesso, then size the wood with acrylic gesso.

>Third, I realize the wood must be very light

If you're using small pieces of wood the weight
may not be an issue. If weight is an issue, I
think you might be better off using pieces of
styrofoam plastic, paper mache, etc.
