I notice that your essay includes:
    MMMMMSeguing is no different from playing long numbers.
    Please don't do it! Please do separate numbers
    by at least fifteen seconds. 


Yet at the major West Coast Swing conventions around here
I hear the DJs change immediately to the next number (no gap).
Is the advice out of date? Or don't the DJs do that elsewhere?

One difference may be that musicians left to their own devices
prefer to smoothly segue into the next melody,
whereas the DJs change to a song that is obviously different.

Maybe you can change your advice so that it allows 
something similar to what the DJs are doing.
