I only know of a handful of people who 'boycotted' the event, but IMO, they using the term boycott to mean they didn't have or didn't want to spend the money to go. A lot of people I know bitched and moaned that they wouldn't go to the Open if it moved. When the Open was in SoCal, these same people didn't stay at the hosting hotels, they didn't eat at the hotel restaurants, etc. They drove from their homes to the event. It was the only event they attended each year, and they attended only because it was in their backyard. It was natural that when the Open moved it would lose them as spectators. There are 1,995 seats in the new auditorium. I'd estimate that the number of empty seats closely compared to the number of missing LA spectators. I'll speculate that in a couple of years, as word of the Open's success spreads, we'll see the place filled to capacity. Ed Jay (remove M to respond)
