Unclear.  The one in Names of Magic is supposed to be the same one Tim met at
a 14 year old, but that one was accompanied by his "blood brother" Iason.
It seemed clear he knew he was going to bind Etrigan into his friend.

But that Merlin was at liberty, more or less, in The Demon; the last I saw of
him he was buried alive in Belial's corpse in Hell, by Etrigan.  How does that
match the later Hunter Merlin?  Badly.  Or, about as well as the later Hunter
Death matches the real Death; there's some superficial similarity, but the
essence seems missing.
