Sean Walsh wrote: : Now just replace Leno is UXM and you'll see what I mean (while Letterman : is......well, pretty much any decent critically acclaimed comic that sells : like crap, or at least not as well as UXM does). Well, the problem is, the masses don't flock to Austen at all. Anything he's written that didn't have the X-Men in it tanked. On AVENGERS, I see, he's starting out with another promotional issue, and I'm sure he has an X-Men crossover up his sleeve as well -- well, OF COURSE sales will go up again. With that kind of "subsidy," even Howard Mackie could raise sales. Now, there are plenty of creators whose work I find utterly crappy out there which obviously DO generate lots of sales, like Jeph Loeb, Bruce Jones, or Geoff Johns, for example. If these people get to write the X-Men starting with a promo giveaway, revamp Spider-Man or do a six-issue bookshelf series about the secret origin of Wolverine with Adam Kubert, I can see a reasonable rationale behind that. With Austen, however, it just boggles the mind. The guy is hired for more high-profile jobs than anybody else in his league, gets one promotional stunt after the next, and is paired with some of the most popular artists in the business -- well, why? What on earth does he have to show for it? : > Right in time to be cancelled. : : Actually, this volume of Gen13 is being cancelled to make way for a new : series which features on the original cast. Ah, I didn't know that. Last I heard, Claremont had been told to wrap things up by putting things back to status quo and bringing back the original characters. -- Marc-Oliver Frisch [EMAIL PROTECTED] Insert shallowly witty signature line here. -- [Please note: This is a Usenet message, originally posted to the rec.arts.comics.* groups.
