The backstory we've been given on the Guardians is that they were told, by the Source energy that made them immortal and that powers the Great Battery that the GL's draw their power from, that since it was Krona's fault that evil had been unleashed in the greater DC universe, it was their job to police the entire universe. I don't see them saying to themselves, "well, these sectors of space are now ruled by sentients who don't want us around, so we'll just devote our efforts to the parts of the universe they don't control." If anything, I'd think that those "empires" who didn't allow the GLC to operate would automatically be more suspect...and in fact would be ripe for the Guardians actually trying to de-throne the despots. I seem to recall a Silver Age story early in Sinestro's career that had the Guardians sending him to do just that...take down a planetary ruler that was oppressing his people. I'm not sure I'm as comfortable with the Guardians sending GLC members to Apokolips, though. My understanding, from the various NEW GODS series, is that both Apokolips and New Genesis exist outside the mainstream DC universe...that's why they can only be reached via Boom Tube. And, if the GENESIS mini's assertion that the Great Battery on Oa is powered by the Godwave that came from the Source is true, then logic dictates that the Source might want to deal with any problems Apokolips causes on its own, rather than having "mortals" interfere. I'm not saying that they haven't had stories indicating that the GLC *tried* to reign in Apokolips...only that to do so raises some questions that DC hasn't answered yet. David Peattie
