A few years ago someone recommended me a book, or series of books set
in Italy (Florence ? Venice ?) of the 15th-16th century.
Apparently, their strength lies in that they are full of intrigue and byzantine politics.
Does this ring a bell at all ?
Could be Dorothy Dunnett's Niccolo series. See http://www.randomhouse.com/vintage/dunnett/niccolo/
