Please listen again to what she actually said. As an editor, she
would have liked to trim the Council scene; as a reader, she would have
been horrified to do so. She was making a point about whether or not a
publisher would publish the book today.
Besides, it is possible to be a fan of something without thinking
it perfect. Tolkien's book has flaws, and there's nothing wrong with
pointing them out.
