Well, that should clear things up. Thanks for the explanation. Curiously,
it's not the first time that a translation mishap had happened with
Tolkien's work. When the translator of The Hobbit started to translate the
map, he saw the word Hobbit, which he didn't know (evidently). He thought
that Tolkien had meant "rabbit", and his theory was validated by the first
phrase of the book, which spoke of a Hobbit living in a hole. So, since that
time, the map at the beginning of The Hobbit shows "les Lapins" ("the
Rabbits") living in the Shire.
