<< I wonder if a copy of the original might be available thru ABE or another used book service? Or perhaps Gutenberg(sp). >> The Thane novels are fairly easy to acquire in the original text -- they were picked up by the Sears Book Club in the 1940s (a book-of-the-month sold through the Sears catalog) and there seem to be plenty of copies floating out there. I rather like the SBC editions as they are sturdy hardbacks with pretty dust jackets and gorgeous illustrated endpapers, but from a book dealer's view, book club editions are not as desirable. You could probably build a whole set for $10-$15 a book, maybe less if you can find a set going on Ebay.
