Valerie Anand had a trilogy that started in England in 1040 or so, and
went well into William's reign.  The first title was Gildenford.
Second might have been _The Norman Pretender_, and third _The Disputed
Crown_.    I thought they were quite good.  Not quite as much
concentration on William as you seem to want, but covered a lot more
people and politics than most novels set in that period.  At least
most that I've run across.  I particularly appreciated the first book
for it's:  how we get to 1066; the root of the trouble between the
idiot Edward and his nobles, particularly Godwin, and stuff like that.


Someone famous wrote a novelized biography of William.... Georgette
Heyer, IIRC.   It would undoubtedly be readable and have no major
errors - her research was in general very good, even if that's not her
usual period.
