She also might like Hilary McKay's Dog Friday, The Amber Cat, and Dolphin Luck, and her Exiles series. And has anyone mentioned the Melendy family books by Elizabeth Enright? These are The Saturdays, The Four-Story Mistake, Then There Were Five, and Spiderweb for Two. Another good author is Jean Little. In the B&N where I work the title From Anna is still available; but I also would recommend Mine For Keeps and Home >From Far--hopefully still available at libraries. Another recommendation is Claire Bishop's Twenty and Ten. Although the story is about how twenty French school children and their teacher hide ten Jewish children from the Nazis, it is really a very positive book. A great non-fiction recommendation is Peg Kehret's Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio. Another great non-fiction read (it will be a fast one for her) is Mary On Horseback by (I think) Rosemary Wells. Best, Anita
