Our 3rd grade daughter is reading at a 6th grade level and we would appreciate some suggestions for reading lists. We prefer story lines that deal with age-appropriate issues for 9 year-olds rather than with middle school angst, broken families, etc etc. I know I'm limiting the possibilities, but hopefully there are other parents out there who feel the same way. She loves Dear America, Nancy Drew, Babysitter's Club, Little House on the Prairie, American Girl and the like. All of these we are mostly comfortable with. This is my first posting to the group: please don't flame me. I know that Babysitter's Club books deal with broken families and I know that the American Girl series (gently) depicts the death of young children and other family members. Maybe it's because I'm a dumb 'ol engineer, but I just feel that sometimes 5th-6th grade level books do not present such topics in a style appropriate for 9 year-olds. I don't want to get into a debate over this. Thanks, Bill Cincinnati, OH nicomp at yahoo.com
