Title of a school book

Hi All,

I'm trying to name a book that was read to my primary school class back in
c1977. I have very little to go on but here goes:-

In the beginning of the book there are two brothers. The younger brother is
sickly. There is a fire in their house and the elder brother jumps out of
the window with his sickly younger brother thus killing himself but saving
the brother.
The elder brother returns to the sickly brother (In a dream?) and tells him
not to worry as there is an afterworld where they shall meet again. Also,
time passes at a different rate so the younger brother leads a full life yet
the elder brother only waits a few days to be reunited.


Sorry its not a lot. Any ideas?
