I, however, am entitled to my own aesthetic judgement. I've also found that some piercers have a stock style of jewellery they'll do particular piercings in. When I went in to have the nose poked, it was assumed that I would want a skinny stud; I had to ask to get a slightly less skinny ring. If I hadn't read up and didn't know it was appropriate to ask... > Also, > many people with nostril piercings are trying to get away with > wearing them at work. I'm lucky in that I work for a very liberal employer: the UK government. Dress code says no denims, sportswear or beachwear, basically, and I've not had any negative reactions to having metal or ink on show. Nor have my pierced and tattooed colleagues -- except on one occasion. A lady in my office had her eyebrow pierced with a ring. Anyway, it wasn't healing well and was manky and red and swollen, and one of the doctors who was in the building to sit on a tribunal had a good rant at her, not because she was pierced but because she had a nasty infection sitting an inch away from her eye and hadn't seen anyone about it. He wrote her a private prescription for antibiotics when she told him she wouldn't take it out!
