_Escaflowne_ is excellent. If you are looking for more mecha shows, you
should also try _Nadesico_, which is a parody of the genre, Gundam (such a
big thing for such a small word--try _08th Mobile Suit Team_ or the movie
trilogy to start), _Outlaw Star_ (not really a mecha show, but great fun),
_Giant Robo_ (retro mecha drama) and a bunch more from the sites listed
below.
