Have you seen the Ruruouni Kenshin OAVs (original animated videos)?  These
were released direct to DVD, so they were never aired on TV in Japan.  In
America, the OAVs were licensed by a different company, so they are sold
under a different name: Samurai X (pretty stupid of them).  Anyhow, I highly
recommend the OAVs.  The voice actors are the same as the TV series, the art
style is a LOT more dramatic, and the stories are more serious than in the

Think of the first disc as a "prequel" to the TV series.  The second is
somewhat of a recap (in the new art style) with a conclusion to the story of
Rurouni Kenshin.
