Re: OT: laptop power auto-continuation?

So, the question. We're looking at a laptop [we're never owned one] for a
soon-to-be college student, but don't know if --while running on house
current, and hooked to its own surge protector-- the laptop's batteries
would automatically takeover during a house current outage. Does the answer
depend on the laptop brand, or do they all switch over, or what?

It had better do that! Otherwise what would happen if you unplugged the charger while the machine was on?

At least, mine (Dell) does, and I'm 99% sure all modern laptops do. ICBW though.

Better yet, many modern laptops will auto-hibernate when their battery is about to run out. In other words, you won't lose your work even if the battery is going to go flat.
