Who the fuck is Dr. Benjamin? Anyway, some Asians have reported this
as well, see:

and tons of other threads on this very topic on this newsgroup,
rec.arts.anime (before there was a .misc), and soc.culture.japan, plus
a few conversations I had with some native Japanese when I was in
Japan last (Oct. 2001). It's conventional wisdom around here more or
less for that reason.
