BTW, this is not an anime convention as such, but simply an adaption of the
very popular "manzai" tradition of stand-up comedy duos consisting of a
"boke" who says dumb things and a "tsukkomi" who hits him for it.

In some Anime, this is expicitly mentioned, especially Azumanga Daiou
(never have I seen a fansub fail so utterly and pathetically to make
use of a truly golden opportunity for an on-screen liner note).
