There have been 3 TV versions (not counting the laughable live action pilot) I have been watching the latest version in Hong Kong (along with bad subtitles) and it is pretty good - the character designs are retro to the 60's but the background & cgi animation is rich, lush and well done. A.B's weapons have changed (no more of his butt guns) and he has an upgraded arm blaster. - The plot line is more developed. As you remember his original creator/father sold himk to the circus when he realized that he would always be a robot. In this series the father is the villian (or is he?). Enjoyable! ten/markl "Galen Musbach" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote in message news:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > On Fri, 28 Nov 2003 03:12:38 GMT, [EMAIL PROTECTED] (James Bond > 007) wrote: > > >A recent commercial on Cartoon Network (?) > >seemed to show the 60's character "Astroboy" > >(arguably *the* model of modern anime, > >and one of my favorites from way back when, > >and, yes, I know I'm showing my age!). ; ) > > > >Unfortunately, I was flipping thru channels, > >and, in a panic to get back to that channel, > >completely missed the point of the ad > >(dontcha just HATE when that happens???). ; ) > > > >Anyway, it appeared to be a new version of the old show! > > There is a new version of Astroboy, it has been > licensed for North America, and dubbing is, at > last report, well underway. > > I hope that they don't screw it up; one of the main > themes of the show is irrational prejudice and > discrimination, and making it safe for soccer-moms > would butcher it. > > -Galen > > > > > >Does anyone have any info about this? > > > >Thanks!
