The amount of posts objectifying women is such a small part of what
Catherine was talking about, and it's all that almost anyone's replying
to.

Because this is not rec.arts.anime.male-fans. Or even
rec.arts.anime.mononoke, which would be the only way for your analogy to
make any sense.

Again, Catherine's complaint is that the guys talk about women in a
sexual context a lot, it was just an example to point out situations in
which guys phrase themselves as talking to the whole fandom about it.
"Who here wouldn't want to nail Ayanami?" "You've all had girlfriends
like Kagome and Haruko, right?" That's assuming maleness of all
readers. Or at the very least, portraying an attitude that the female
fans are invisible to you. That hurts. Maybe unless you've never been
made to feel invisible, you don't know how that feels. It's not hard to
say "If girls are your thing, who here wouldn't like to nail Ayanami?"
or "A lot of you have had girlfriends like Kagome and Haruko, right?".
This should come naturally, no one should even have to think about the
fact that your words could be excluding people, it should be forward in
your thought process while you're composing your statement that hey;
women are out there. Why in the world is this hard for so many guys?
It looks mysoginist to show that kind of disregard so naturally. Just
be aware that if you do that, you're coming off that way.
