I think "Kanon" is a pretty good choice though you'll need to get passed the setup episodes. As this is based off of a dating-sim game, there are several girls to introduce, but they did this series really well and with no ecchi content. Shocking, ne? And it is a tear-jerker. There are a couple of minor problems, but overall, I really liked it. It isn't in R1 release though (sadly) so you'll have to do R2 or fansub. http://anime.mikomi.org/series/Kanon
