Catherine, you are, of course, right. I feel for you, honestly, because
I think that in many ways it would really stink to be a woman in this
hobby, and that's a big reason why. Unfortunately, that's also the way
of the world. I get a similar sort of feeling every time some American
here makes comments with the implicit assumption that everyone else is
also American; I get it in real life when people assume I'm Christian.
That's just the way it goes, however, when you're in the minority. It's
aggravating, but the majority is always going to contain a bunch of
jerks, just because it IS the majority and statistical probability
indicates a large number of jerks and people who are fairly thoughtless.
It's not even just the fans...plenty of otherwise perfectly good anime
and manga contains elements that are obviously thrown in to entice males,
and serve no purpose besides that. Relatively few have the same thing
for females (yes, there's Utena and Weiss Kreuz and Fushigi Yuugi,
BUT...they're still very much the minority).

But unfortunately, that's also just life. You can ask people to think a
little more, and some will, but there'll always be more people that
don't. I don't want you to give up, because I enjoy your contributions
to this group, but I'm afraid you're really aggravating yourself to no
avail, because this attitude is never going to change as long as men
remain the vast majority of anime fans (of course, these attitudes
contribute to that situation, no doubt). I think it's great you try to
fight it, but is it really worth getting this frustrated about? I'm
afraid I just don't think it will do you, or the situation, any good.
