Movie-wise you got good stuff like Patlabor, Ghost in the Shell and hunt down other Studio Ghibli (Mononoke people) productions: Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, Kikis Delivery Service etc. All making something of a revamp on DVD. I have just finished Neon Genesis Evangelion (series) which is superb, but complicated and deep. Just plain avoid all spoilers & forums & usenet postings talking about it (like I did). I love Noir too, though it is somethign of an acquired taste. Read or Die OVA is laugh out loud funny, and I really liked the Macross plus OVA too, it stood on its own well.
