Chances are that it was yet another case of a name change used to try to
prop up or boost a product. This has happened so much recently. The
silliest one was the change of a cleaning product from "Jif" to "Cif"
because, so the company said, the word "Jif" is actually a swear word in
certain countries. So why change it in the UK? 

I mean, we never had the problem with any other stuff. For example, they
changed the name of the Commodore VIC20 in Germany to the VC20 because VIC
in German is rude, but that didn't affect us! It seems that the global
economy is slowly erasing cultural differences...

The "shiite" thing is a joke I've heard before on a show called "Drop The
Dead Donkey", where a newsreader made the same mistake by referring to
them as "shite muslims"...
