Hmmm, haven't heard about that.  Must be a UK release too I bet.

Most US films are done this way too, so I'm not too concerned (unless
there was an importance to having those sections intact on the film, I
assume they cropped it to make it anamorphically widescreen for most
digital TV sets).

Well I can't (being an American, but watched The Snowman from a 16mm
print once in the 3rd grade).

I think I once saw the David Bowie intro as well, but preferred the
original (I think the current US VHS release keeps this in).
