How to operate Emperor filters carbonless??

I've been tearing my hair out for the past several days searching the
net and I've found nothing, not even a post on Usenet from anyone
asking this.

I want to run the Emperor 280 filter carbonless. However, their
replacement cartridges come with carbon already in them, and they are
permanently sealed shut, so you can't remove it.

I can't seem to find an alternative cartridge that does not have
carbon.

I've asked on some message boards and the suggestion I keep getting is
"Use two media containers." Well, you CAN'T use two media containers,
two WILL NOT FIT in the 280 or 400.

It seems I'm stuck with carbon if I want to use a bio wheel.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
