Lighting: T5 lamps on a T8 ballast?

Hi

I have several electric ballasts from Maxlite (The SKE1324, i believe)
that can power up to 4 F32T8 lamps.  However, i want to use either 28W
or 54W (HO) T5s for several new lighting hoods.  Is there any way a
ballast designed for T8s will work with some type of T5s?  It doesn't
matter so much to me if the T5s are underdriven or overdriven
slightly, i just need the slightly shorter form factor and narrower
diameter.
