The only issue with salt I believe is relevant to a freshwater aquarium is if a anti-caking agent is added to the salt. I use pickling salt by Morton usually because its just salt and is small particle size and is cheap. Rock salt is also fine. Water softener salt is fine and is the cheapest by far(no additive type). Been a lot of hype about Iodized salt being bad, which its really not. You could even use the anti-caking stuff if you do not mind the crap floating around in the tank.
