My guess is that the impeller has worn down around the shaft. I have a Fluval with a worn impeller that acts likes yours does. Open it up and pull the impeller out. If it seems loose around the shaft, then you should buy a new one. The cost is about $13. Here are a couple of links. I can't vouch for either, but they have the information you would be looking for: http://www.petsolutions.com/cgi-bin/cgiitmls?m=ThisP&p=109.400000&l=13 http://www.superfishstore.com/eheim2213impeller.htm
