I've seen something similar in my tanks. A jelly-like transparent mucous developed on some mopani root after being in the aquarium for about a week. Shortly afterwards, I discovered that my SAE (or possibly pleco) really liked the taste of it. Within another week or so it was gone again. Never did figure out WHAT it was, but there didn't seem to be any ill effects from it.
