When I purchased gouramis the LFS told me that they could get aggressive
when they got older.  Perhaps you could separate it for awhile from the rest
of the fish.  Put it in another tank or a breeding trap for a day or two.
When it's reintroduced the dynamic of the tank may have changed enough to
change the behaviour.
