be very careful using anything for home use in aquariums. an aquarium sponge is better. a couple years ago scotch suddenly started adding antibacterial compound into their "scratchy" that fish people had been using and people lost all their fish from it before realizing the "dont use in aquarium" was on the back in tiny, tiny print.
