furunculosis is a generic term meaning " A skin condition characterized by the development of recurring boils". in fish this can be due to different bacteria. in fish this is caused by Aeromonas salmonicida http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10364_10950-27389--,00.html usually lumps are coming from the inside out, so need to feed the fish antibiotic food for at least a month, and since it is aeromonas you can kill it by getting the temp of the water up to 84oF for a few days. You MUST use good aeration tho. Crank the temp up fast, but lower it slowly 4o per day. you also need to keep the water pristine, changing water to keep nitrates 20 ppm or lower.
