Strangely enough, US Utility patent 386,508 is for a lamp, but the patent is dated 1888 and doesn't show a shade, just an oil lamp base. The invention was for an insulator designed to reduce the temperature of the base, so it doesn't seem likely that a shade would be marked with this patent number. Design patent 386,508 is from 1996 and is for a video camera.
