That is dark lacquer they sprayed on furniture back then .. kind of a
transparent paint . 
First clean the cabinet with windex or whatever you like then wipe dark
walnut stain on the dark trim then wipe / buff it back off that will
darken most of it . 
If you are not happy with that go to an office supply & pick up a brown
sharpie felt pen . color the scratches very carfully then rub a rag over
it do this for each scratch . That pen will cover up the dings better
than anything else . 
If you want a bit more shine after the above is done get some dark
colored danish oil and rub that on & let it dry .
