Converting Zenith 6V27 to AC power without a transformer

Why go to all that trouble? If you can find a husky 6-volt storage
battery charger (the type capable of enough current output to start an
engine of a car with a dead battery), I would think it should operate
the radio just as well as an AC conversion. The only thing I'd check
would be the filtering and regulation of the charger's output; many of
these were poorly regulated, with almost no filtering.
