Finishing an 84 as a Christmas gift for a friend, aside from an open antenna coil (primary, minimal challenge to fix), I found out a miswiring problem on the audio section. There's a Bakelite cap with code 7762-B. I restuffed it as per the service bulletin available on Philcoradio.com but doing so makes the 42's grid go to ground through the coupling cap instead of going to the detector's plate (through a 10K). Wiring seems originals as all wires and resistors fit perfectly and there is no way I can swap connections...there is only the section going from the 42's grid to the detector's, the other cap's section is fine... Now I have two options: pretend the data from the service bulletin is wrong, (which I doubt it is as all Bakelite caps from the service bulltein are using pins 1-3 and 2-3, but hey, what do I know...) or... a previous tech miswired the Bakelite cap (again, wiring is neatly placed and I would need to use a jumper to make everything go where it belongs if I swap lugs). Can someone shed light on this ? I fixed it no big deal (aside from the coil, it's already really past my bedtime), but I'd like to know what's wrong here... Syl
