Vintage Zenith Trans-Oceanic Radio, Model #H500, Exc. This 1950's vintage Zenith Trans-Oceanic Portable Radio, Model H500, is in excellent (appearance) condition. It does not operate...only hums. It is in a black cloth-type case measuring 18 inches x 8 inches x 11 inches high. The radio uses a 110 Volt cord. There is absolutely no hardware damage. All hardware parts are in excellent condition and work properly. The only problem with this is that it hums when turned on. The tubes check out fine, so I suspect there must be a couple of bad capacitors (these look to be the older paper type). The front of the radio has a decorative hinge latch that says (Zenith, Trans-Oceanic). This latch lifts the front door that shows the radio. The underside of the front door has a large decorative plastic insert that says (Zenith, Wavemagnet) and has the Zenith logo. The radio has 2 knobs (volume and tuning). Beneath this are four red switches marked, (Treble, Voice, Alto, Bass). On the right side are black push-type buttons marked, (31M, 25M, 19M, 16M, 2-4 MC, 2-8 MC, and BC). Next to each of these are notes corresponding to the buttons (Afternoon & Evening, Afternoon and Evening, All Day, Morning, Weather Marine & Amateur, Weather Marine & SW Broadcast, and Broadcast). All knobs, dials, and push buttons work properly. The top has a hard plastic carrying handle. The radio also has a telescopic antenna. It works properly, is not bent or broken, and slides up and down easily. The backside has a hinged door the opens to the tubes, speakers, and controls. The schematic label is on the inner side panel. With the exception of the "hum", there is no structural damage, no broken or missing pieces, no cracks or any other damage. The cord is still flexible and has no cracks. I do not know how to fix a radio other than checking tubes, so I leave this to the successful buyer. Once fixed, this will be a very nice, collectable radio.
