I know that! I have paid for flights Vancouver - Europe several times
with accumulated Aeroplan points.

My original questions are still relevant, because:

1) Air Canada Aeroplan points can be used on a dozen or more other
airlines (including some you have never heard of!);

2) his country of residence might dictate which of those many airlines
he can most easily use;

3) his specific preferred cities may be more or less attainable,
depending on
the relative number of flights (and seats) between them offered by the
various airlines flying that route; it may be that, for example, there
are no seats available to Amsterdam, but lots to Brussels;

OTOH, since I posed those 3 questions, I have been
wondering why he is willing to spend a jillion extra points for the
"First Class experience", rather than flying Economy to Europe next
Spring, and somewhere else at a later date. Yes, it's entirely his
choice, but I can't help thinking that some people (especially snowbound
Canadians) would rather save those extra points to go somewhere warm
next winter.

Brrrr!
