Re: Pocket-sized RAM based digital live audio recorders: Where are they?

Nagra ARES-PII, maybe $2,800 in January

or

iRiver ifp-595, about $400 at outwardsound.com

or

better still, make your own and report
back whether you were realistic in thinking
you could do everything you specified for $400
in the size of a deck of cards. If you do,
you'll get a lot of orders, but you'll need
more evidence than "hey it's feasible because
a minidisc player can do it [which it can't]
and all I have to do is swap out the minidisc
and swap in a CF card holder." You could have
said the same thing about DVD vs. VCR, but you
could have had five kids in the time it took
to happen.

As Rocketman, perhaps you have access to
hyper-shrinking and mega-cheapening technology
that doesn't reduce quality to laughable levels.
If so, apply it liberally to a Marantz PMD670
and sell that. Or the upcoming Sound Devices
722 or 744T would work too. In fact, Sound
Devices would probably be thrilled if you could
even shrink their 302 mixer to the size of a
deck of cards without compromising quality.
When you're done, I got a desktop pc that needs
to become a cheap but quality laptop.
