They must be around for the early music crowd. We spent the better part of 400 years getting strings superior to gut. Unless you are into the early music scene, why bother. In my early days ca. 1952-60, I used all gut A strings which were sort of the standard at that time. Although I didn't have the greatest violin at the time, I didn't really notice all that much difference between the last gut string I used and the then-modern aluminum wound gut A strings. Check out a big mail order place such as Shar www.sharviolins.com, I think I remember seeing all gut strings there once. Jon Teske
