A couple of things. First, DON'T play those precious discs on your school-type record player. The tonearm weight (stylus pressure) is way too high, and you'll grind the signal right out of the grooves. Second, DON'T clean them with any record-cleaning solution that incorporates alcohol, which means many of the popular ones. Discwasher D4 is okay, and you can also use plain distilled water. Finally, what everyone is saying about checking out resources online is correct. You need to find a good turntable, hook it to a stereo receiver with a phono jack at the very least, and record using a decent audio setup. Cleaning up is an art; I use DCART, which is excellent for descratching. If you only have a few recordings to do, however, I strongly urge you to have a professional do it rather than try it yourself. It'll cost you less in the long run. Peace, Paul
