Thanks, vinyl1. Yes, the original "Dust Bug" appears to have been made of acrylic, and has a suction cup base rather than the heavy metal base on my record sweep. Another poster sent me an eBay auction listing of an original Dust Bug, the pictures bear out your assumption.
