New Music Novel: Cutting Time

Readers of this newsgroup will be interested in a new musical novel from Coral
Press (www.coralpress.com):
Cutting Time: A Novel of the Blues, by Robert Dunn (author of Pink Cadillac).

>From the Cutting Time book jacket:

A Southside Chicago blues joint in 1963
A hot young guitar player up against ...
... the King of the Blues
A witchy woman, a slumming debutante,
A white boy with his own secrets

They all come together in a wonderful novel that captures a remarkable world of
smoky blues clubs, dangerous characters, bewitched love, and surprising
gallantry. A fine read, at bottom Cutting Time is a novel of character tested:
How we suffer and fight for the lives weâre born to fulfill.

And some reviews:
âDunn's knowledge and true love of the blues radiates from every page of
Cutting Time. He recreates the Chicago scene of the early sixties with vivid
detail, and renders his characters with compassion and insight. The
plotâfueled by greed, voodoo, sex, and guitar heroicsâsteamrollers toward a
conclusion that is both inevitable and unexpected. If you love the blues, check
this one out.â
-- Lewis Shiner, author of Glimpses

âA heady mix of blues myth and blues nitty-gritty by a writer who
knows the passions and pleasures of music from the inside.â
-- Michael Lydon, author of Ray Charles: Man and Music

âMusic lovers will relish Dunn's incendiary ability to recreate the
experience of hearing live music and his tantalizing mix of hoodoo and hot
blues.â -- Booklist

Cutting Time is available now at bookstores and online at BarnesandNoble.com
and amazon.com. And donât forget Pink Cadillac, about which David Hajdu,
author of Positively Fourth Street, wrote: âTrue rock and roll literature--a
book with all the wily grace of a Chuck Berry song.â More info at
