Re: (Slightly) OT: "Triplets of Belleville"

Humor can be so personal. And anyway, sometimes something is
humorous because it's a veiled reference or a spoof -- and I
typically miss out on that sort of humor, so I felt good that
I caught this one. I suppose it wasn't a spoof exactly, but
it was just a little heart warming to see a clever classical
music reference like that.

I actually thought that the film was quite good. As you probably know, it received a standing ovation at Cannes, and
my friend who lives in Paris saw it twice. Perhaps it appeals
more to French sensibilities.

The UK audience also applaused at the end of the film. But then they do like most of the French films (calling them "Arthouse") no matter how good or bad they are. I remember the poster of the film in the UK had a review from a French critic saying "The best film in Cannes and not taking part in the competition. Scandal!" or something similar. I know this is not a film newsgroup but I have to say the new Haneke film "Time of the Wolf" was definitely among the best off-competition films (if not the best).
