Re: Period vs Modern instruments?

As previously posted I regard it as being on the night.  There are
great/okay/reasonable/poor/crap performances of both historic and
modern performances and I am unable to tell you when a) these have
occurred or b) when they are going to occur in the future.

One of my problems when playing 16th/17th century timpani parts is
that I have never (personally) been able to locate authentic mallets.

I do have a pair of baroque timps but they are not authentic because
although made several centuries ago I have changed the heads at least
twice in the last 25 years.
