Lets not forget that within the meter, there is an infinite possibility of rhythms. Can we conceive music that exits with no reference to space and time? Using a metronome does make me feel that the music is accumulating itself in a linear fashion and consequently it has a restraint of its openess in space. Tic tac tic tac. Unfortunately most interest in the metronome sprung from the desire to acquire even, fast tempo. Like so many people who just look at their watch to realise that if they do not hurry they are going to be late, squeasing their life in time ... Alain P.S. I am suspicious of my spelling program! it is telling me that "the spelling check is complete"! no! not possible!!! that would mean a perfect tempo!
