I remember that carlos' tone on the scarlatti record to be quite a bit warmer then say the Mignone or French Impressionist record. I recall a more delicate vibrato in the scarlatti record that probably contributed to warming up the tone. i sense also more the residual effect of Segovia that seems to me to be completely gone in his later records, where unique style is more evident. In many ways, it was this record and my fond memories of it, as well as my appreciation of his work with Santorsola and Ginastera (not to mention quite a few beers with C.B.L) that inspired me to dedicate my 12 etudes to him. His preface has been on my music stand since 1993! mark
